We are all book lovers at Leading Hand and passionately believe that reading is fundamental to a successful and happy life. This makes working with the team at Sydney Writers’ Festival pure joy.
One of our most beloved projects is the annual re-design of the wonderful Russ the Bus – a bus full of books for kids.
Last year we worked with stunning illustrations by award-winning children’s illustrator and author, Shaun Tan. This year we had the pleasure of working with Cheryl Orsini and her beautiful and lyrical illustrations that evoke the magic of reading. The result is a ‘brand new bus’ for kids to enjoy.
Russ the Bus is a wonderful traveling library of books that criss-crosses the state, Victoria and the ACT taking books, authors and illustrators to kids in Western Sydney and regional towns, many of which do not have a bookshop.
It is credited with putting thousands of books into the hands of primary school children and as a result encouraging the joy of reading.
