CHALLENGE
The HIV testing kit packaging project from St Vincent’s Centre for Applied Medical Research required us to design a discreet, simple and functional solution to deliver Dried Blood Spot (DBS) sample collection kits. The audience for these kits is individuals from a variety of backgrounds, many of whom would not voluntarily seek HIV testing from traditional providers.

SOLUTION
Our first exercise was to brand the kits with a name that would prompt active collection of the kit but remain fairly ambiguous. We proposed “HELP YOURSELF” – a title that had a double meaning but didn’t divulge too much about the kit or its contents.

The use of dark blue on the exterior helped to temper the impact of the piece and worked brilliantly with the light blue on the inside, where instructions were printed out.
One of the key elements of this project was to create the die-cut for the kit. After many mockups (and a few close calls with the drafting knife!) we created a customised self-locking box that contained the contents of the sample collection kit at a size that would still fit into a back pocket.
The final HIV testing kit packaging material was met with much praise from the team at the Centre. We look forward to working on more great projects with this fantastic client.

“Leading Hand successfully delivered the final product and the design was praised by the various stakeholders involved in this project. We highly recommend the services provided by Leading Hand, for which we will be using in the future. “
